World War Two may be over, but Red Cross medic Ray Hauserman can’t bring himself to return home from India to the woman he loves. The shame of having broken his pacifist vow “never to kill” draws him into the turbulent world of a charismatic Indian doctor and spiritual teacher. This inspiring man offers Ray a unique path to redemption through service to the poor and helpless of 1946 Calcutta, the time of the bloody Muslim/Hindu riots that quickened the partition of India. But to follow that path, Ray will have to give up everything he knows and loves. When his fiancée arrives to try to bring him back to The States, they are both challenged to learn the ultimate lessons of love and sacrifice.
